Pre-Matriculation Transfer Credit
Information on this page pertains to matriculating First-Year students. Transfer students, please find helpful resources in the Incoming Transfer Students webpage.
About the Transfer Credit
Pre-matriculation transfer credits are reviewed by the Arts & Sciences Registrar’s Office. The awarding of pre-matriculation credit and formal requests for exemptions must be made within the first term of study, unless specifically permitted by the department/program in which the course is offered. Retroactive approval is not guaranteed.
Courses offered by accredited degree-granting institutions are potentially acceptable for transfer credit provided the courses are an integral part of an officially defined undergraduate Arts and Sciences curriculum; online courses, those given by extension programs, or internship programs are not transferable. Only courses and/or credits that were not used to satisfy any high school graduation requirements are eligible for transfer. Pre-matriculation transfer credits do not satisfy any part of the Distributive, World Culture, or Interdisciplinary requirements. Students should be aware that some departments and programs have restrictive policies toward transfer credit.
Please provide the following information when submitting your application to the Arts & Sciences Registrar’s Office:
- Pre-Matriculation Transfer Credit Form with signature from department/program chair or designee
- Official transcript from the prior institution
- Course description and syllabi
- Documentation to verify that the courses and/or credits did not fulfill your high school graduation requirements
