Instructions for Electing a Course
Follow the steps in the guide below to elect a course. These steps apply to course election. For instructions on how to add a course in course change or add/drop, please refer to the How to Add a Course Guide.
1. Utilize the "Keyword" box and the Advanced Search options to refine your search criteria. After typing your search criteria click "Search".
2. In the Advanced Search dropdown “Any School/Course Type” select “UG - Arts & Sciences School” then click “Search” to show all undergraduate courses in the search results.
3. Browse the Search Results Panel and click on the course you want to add. Note: students elect a course placeholder during the election period. Placeholder courses are designated as a “zz” section, except for independent studies, which are shown as a typical section 01, etc.
The Course Details panel displays all sections of the course. During the election period sections are greyed out. You will not be able to select a specific section because you are electing the course and may be placed into any section during election processing.
You can utilize either the standard “Search Results” panel or the “Grid Search” panel to review courses. Please note that during the election period, the “Grid Search” lists specific sections. Meaning that you will be able to click a specific section, but the “Course Details” panel will still display the placeholder or zz section like it does in the standard “Search Results” panel. Please be aware that the Enrollment Cap for each section can be found in the Grid Search Results. As the zz section is only a placeholder, it will not display an enrollment cap for the course.
4. Click "Add to Cart" at the bottom of the Course Details Panel.
5. The Primary Cart is the only cart with which you can submit courses for registration. Click "OK" to continue.
6. In the Registration Options panel, click "Save Changes".
7. The cart panel opens to display any courses you have already elected, they have a black check mark next to them, and the course you are adding, which will have a blue shopping cart symbol. Click "Go to Registration".
8. In the registration panel, click "Submit Registration" to complete your election of the course.
9. You will see the course you added; it will have a green check mark next to the title and the text "This class has been added to your schedule".
10. To check the registration status of all courses in your cart, click "Primary Cart".
11. You can see the courses you have elected in this panel.
